Kirsti Huke Quartet

Kirsti Huke Quartet came together in 2006, from Norway. The band has released two albums; «Deloo» in 2007 and «Kirsti Huke» in 2009.

The first album contains mostly songs from the standard repertoire, while the second album is mostly original music written by Huke herself, and is more of an album where genres are crossing and the jazz expression is being pushed more into the rock and pop landscape, at the same time as the jazz elements remains strong.

All the members in the band works with different styles of jazz, also outside the jazzgenre, this gives a creative «push» to the music, but always with great respect for the tradition of jazz music.

Kirsti Huke(1977) - vocal
She has become a household name in the Norwegian jazz scene. Her voice has been described as a honey jar and a powerhouse, both as descriptions of this gifted singer’s playful and rooted approach to jazz standards as well as pop and rock songs in a quartet setting.
The norwegian music press recognizes her ability to make the audience feel the importance that she gives to what she sings.

Vigleik Storaas(1963) - piano
Two times Vigleik has been awarded The Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen) for his outstanding work.
In addition to his collaborations with top Norwegian musicians, he has performed with John Surman, Palle Danielsson, Karin Krog, Louis Stewart, Chet Baker, and many others. He is widely acclaimed as one of Norway’s top jazz pianists.
He graduated from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s Jazz Conservatory in 1984, and is now teaching the next generation of jazz talents.

Steinar Raknes(1975) - bass
Steinar Raknes is one of Norway’s foremost jazz bassists and songwriters. With his fearless and explosive playing style, he is often compared with the legendary bassist and songwriter Charles Mingus.
Raknes is recognized through his work as composer and musician in the award-winning jazz trio
Urban Connection, and for collaborations with artists such as Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Steve Grossman and Per "Texas" Johansson.
After completing a Master of Arts degree in jazz at NTNU in 2001, he has collaborated in a number of ensembles, including The Core, the Ola Kvernberg Trio, SKAIDI, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and his own band Steinar Raknes Quartet which has made a great success with the album "Tango, Ballads and more". In 2008 the Norwegian University of Science and Technology(NTNU) appointed him as official jazz ambassador.

Tomas Järmyr(1987) - drums
He is a drummer from the small town of Sandviken in Sweden. He picked up the sticks at the age of 2. After several years in the local music school, he started the music program in jazz education while in High School. After two years of exploring and developing a more personal sound, he attended the jazz department at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway. This is his current location. Besides finishing his last year at the conservatory and being a member of many different bands he is also working as a freelance musician.
