(朝阳区 : 朝陽區 : Cháoyáng Qū; lit. "facing the sun") is a district of northeastern Beijing, China. Chaoyang is home to the majority of Beijing's many foreign embassies, the well-known Sanlitun bar street, as well as Beijing's growing CBD. The Olympic Park, built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, is also in Chaoyang, as is Beijing Capital International Airport.

(东城区 e: 東城區 : Dōngchéng Qū; literally "east city precinct") Dongcheng District covers several important parts of Beijing. Wangfujing and Dongdan, as well as the Beijing Railway Station, the Eastern Chang'an Avenue, and the northeastern stretch of the 2nd Ring Road all belong to its jurisdiction.

(海淀区 (officially), 海甸区 (alternatively) : 海淀區/海甸區 : Hǎidiàn Qū) is a district of the municipality of Beijing. It lies towards the northwestern part of the greater urban area. In comparison to other districts, a higher percentage of its inhabitants do not have the governmental residential certificates for long-term residence, because Haidian District is where most universities are located and therefore many of its inhabitants are college students. As a result of its large concentration of universities, the district is often referred to as the “University District” by English speakers living in Beijing.

Due to the fast expansion of Beijing's urbanization, Tongzhou District (通州区) has rapidly become the new uprising horizont of the outer eastern part of Beijing. Best reachable via subway Line 2 extended to Tongzhou or by car/taxi taking the Jing-Tong Express Highway.

(西城区 : 西城區 : Xīchéng Qū, lit. 'West City District') is the largest portion of the old city (inside the 2nd Ring Road) The Xidan commercial district, Finance Street (Jinrongjie), Beihai Park, Jingshan Park, Shichahai and Zhongnanhai are within its jurisdiction. The popular Houhai bar area is also in Xicheng Precinct. Before the communist takeover, most royalties and aristocrats resided in the precinct. Xicheng Precinct is where one finds the Beijing Zoo and Yuetan Park.
