Gig of the Week: 21 March — 27 March 2012
Where: 2 Kolegas
When: Sat 24 March, 21:00
How Much: 50RMB; 40RMB students
Who: Friend or Foe, Rainbow Danger Club (More Info)
Why: Well, I just had so much fun at the Friend or Foe show last year at D-22 that I couldn’t help but recommend this show. Plus, after the rip-roaring time we had bringing the band back to 2 Kolegas afterwards, it’s rather fitting that the show’s being held there (there were rumors, initially, of it being at Yugong Yishan. I’m glad the plans were scrapped). Plus, of course, Rainbow Danger Club, which is not only arguably Shanghai’s most popular band in Beijing, but also the one that hasn’t made it up here yet (maybe there’s a correlation… but I don’t think so). It’s going to be a night of great music, good times, and of course, one of the last times you’ll get to see JUE in action, as the festival closes out this Sunday.
Also part of the Shanghai takeover this weekend is Friday night’s trip-hop experience at 2 Kolegas with AM444 and ROM, 50RMB, 9PM. At the same time, Shanghai group Death to Giants (mentioned in last week’s newsletter) takes over Hot Cat Club, Free, 9PM. But before then, on Thursday, French madman Chapelier Fou takes the stage at Mao for one of his incomparable performances, 9PM, 60RMB. On Sunday is JUE’s final musical offering with Devil Music Ensemble and Eatliz, some experimental musicians from the USA and Israel, respectively, playing at Tango 3/F, 7PM, 60RMB. Farewell, JUE! It’s been a good run.
