10mg Lexapro Wellbutrin, Lexapro Interactions Melatonin ** Online Same Day Shipping Escitalopram

I went to Music Funhill last year, but to be honest the only reason I heard about it was that Super VC and Life Journey were playing. This year, there are definitely some great acts but it didn’t pop up on my radar. So just in case you don’t have plans this weekend, and are willing to put up the 150RMB/day, I thought I would report on it. I’m not putting the festival up on the gig guide (I’m nearly done updating for September, though!), but below the jump is the schedule. Buy tickets online at damai.cn.

Gig of the Week: 17 August — 23 August 2011

    Where: Dos Kolegas
    When: Sat 20 Aug, 22:00PM
    How Much: Free
Who: Nucleus, Wu & The Side Effects, Skarving, The Rudeness (More Info)
Why: Mostly, because it’s free, and the bands are great. I’m not on record as the biggest Nucleus fan, but I’m open to them winning me over after not having seen them perform in a very long time. Because according to many people I know, they’re a shining example of hard rock in this city. Anyone following this newsletter will know that I love Wu & The Side-Effects, and this is their last performance with yet another member — drummer Mo is headed back to Germany. Skarving is always a fun, ska-soaked time, and I have never seen The Rudeness but it will be good to see another example of ska in this city.

Runners up this week are: This is the last two semi-final shows of Tiger Translate before the big finale next weekend: on Friday, Perdel headline at Mako Livehouse, and on Saturday, Reflector headline at Mao Livehouse, 70/60RMB; also on Friday, Steely Heart and The Lone are doing an unplugged set at Hot Cat Club, 30RMB; and on Saturday, funk rockers Not There are hosting “Back to School for Adults”, free at Hot Cat Club.

Gig of the Week: 10 August — 16 August 2011

    Where: Yugong Yishan
    When: Thu 11 Aug, 21:30PM
    How Much: 60RMB
Who: Jeffrey Lewis (USA), Xiao He (More Info)
Why: There are a lot of worthy gigs going on this week, but I’m picking this one because I fell for Jeffrey Lewis many years ago. I haven’t been keeping up with his career, but his first couple of albums were just the sort of analog New York anti-folk thing I was into for a really long time. I never got to see him while I lived in Australia, so I’m really excited to be able to see him here in Beijing. For a sample of his music that reliably works behind the GFW, check out his Douban page. And of course, you should all know Xiao He’s name by now. If you don’t, he’s an experimental folk artist signed to Maybe Mars that occasionally does some weird stuff like performing a song with a two-minute silence. He’s a great show, though, and I suggest you get there in time to see him.

Runners up this week are: This weekend is Rock Aid festival, with some pretty big hard rock names performing at Tango 3rd Floor each night from Friday to Sunday, check out all the info here; Tiger Translate shows this week have Hedgehog on Friday at Mao and Twisted Machine on Saturday at Mako Livehouse; and finally, a regular show has traveling Yunnan folk artists Shanren playing at Dos Kolegas on Friday, 10PM, 60/50RMB.

And as a post-script, just so that everyone is aware if you are not already: D-22 will be closed from August 8–22.

Gig Update: News from Not There

My friend Jon from the very funky band Not There has a gig coming up that sounds like an incredible party. Here he is to tell you about it:

Not There is throwing a back-to-school party at Hot Cat in Fang Jia Hutong on Saturday August 20th. It’s completely free.

Now this isn’t a back-to-school party for kids. When you’re a kid, everyday is a party. Let’s face it. Those of us kicking it in Beijing working the 9–5 or teaching, or just drinking down the street at El Nido are the ones who deserve to party. So the kids might be going back-to-school, but the adults will be the ones getting naughty in the Hutongs.

What do we have planned for the party?

Well I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but Not There is gonna play 2 sets of High Energy Dance Music mixed with Space-Porn Funk. If you’ve seen us play late night, when everybody’s had just enough fun to get lubricated, you know we can kick it all night. And this time we will. We’ve got a bunch of new dance songs that we’re itching to drop the needle on and a few oldies that are tweaked and oiled to shine.

Back-to-school for adults will also have kinky door prizes and sexy school supplies with a delectable hint of salaciousness. (We’re also working on dancers in Japanese Schoolgirl outfits.) (Seriously.)

Doors open at 9 and we’ll be going till Sunday morning. Drink specials include great prices on imported beer and absinthe. You bring the smoke.

Let’s make this back-to-school naughty enough for adults…

    –Jonathan Heeter, bassist Not There

Note: “Adult includes all y’all college kids too. Not There is an equal opportunity enabler…”

Gig of the Week: 3 August — 9 August 2011

    Where: Mao Livehouse
    When: Sat 6 August, 18:00PM
    How Much: 100RMB; 77RMB pre-sale
Who: Brain Failure, SUBS, Shochu Legion, Discord, Hell City, Misandao, Skarving, Unregenerate Blood, The Unsafe, Return of the Truth, The Last Choice (More Info)
Why: In case you couldn’t tell from looking at the lineup, this Saturday night at Mao Live is PUNK NIGHT. More specifically, it is called PUNK IN LOVE, and is the eighth annual of its kind. I’m not always in the mood for punk, it has to be said, but with such an amazing lineup, I’m sure to get my money’s worth. Ever since seeing SUBS at Dos Kolegas, I have a feeling I might like them, and all the rest are names I have come to recognize as the cream of the crop of punk sounds. Though Skarving is most definitely a ska band and last I checked, Return of the Truth is a metal group, I’m sure they’ll be pulling out all their punky upbringings for this show. It should be a fun night, and it starts at 6PM so there’s plenty of punk to last you through the night.

Runners up this week are: visiting groups abound! Next Tuesday is Neon Trees & Pet Conspiracy kicking off LET’S ROCK BEIJING at Tango Third Floor, Tue @ 8PM, 220/180RMB, and British Sea Power are hitting Yugong Yishan TONIGHT, supported by very capable Muma & Third Party, 8:30PM, 260/180RMB; Mongolian artists A Jinai are playing Mao Live, Sunday@ 9PM, 60/50RMB; and finally,Tiger Translate’s battle of the bands shows this week are Perdel at Mako Livehouse, Fri @ 8:30PM, 70/60RMB, and Reflector at Tango Third Floor, Sun @ 8:30PM, 70/60RMB.

    Summer Sonic Update: Final Lineup

Now, I don’t know why I’ve been posting about Summer Sonic any more than you do. For some reason, Mao put me on the email list about it, so I’ve been getting the emails. But I do honestly think that it’s a great opportunity for those bands going, and another step in the right direction for cultural exchange between China and Japan, to take eight Chinese bands and put them on stage at Asia’s biggest and most successful music festival of the year. With all that said, here is the final lineup, including Mao Livehouse’s battle of the bands winners:

    1. Re-TROS
    2. Queen Sea Big Shark
    3. Muma & Third Party
    4. Perdel
    5. The Ghost Spardac
    6. Crystal Butterfly
    7. RunRunLoser
    8. Nanwu

And despite the fact I have never heard of RunRunLoser, I think this is a solid lineup. There’s a good variety of all the biggest genres, and all with great bands representing China’s efforts. Of course there are bands I think would be better, but for a first pass at impressing Asia, I think China’s done a good job.

Gig of the Week: 27 July — 2 August 2011

    Where: Tango Third Floor
    When: Fri 29 July, 20:30PM
    How Much: 70RMB; 60RMB students; 50RMB pre-sale; 40RMB pre-sale students
Who: Pet Conspiracy headlines, battle of the bands ensues (More Info)
Why: If you’d noticed, this entry was entirely different about half an hour ago. I got notice from the eagle-eyed Josh at pangbianr that two of the three draw cards had pulled out, so I had to switch gigs at the last minute. Still, I will say that this gig should be interesting. I am interested to see how the Tiger Translate battle of the bands works — and actually, I have never actually been to a battle of the bands in Beijing before. Plus, Pet Conspiracy has been a band to watch for a while, and I haven’t seen them nearly enough. It should be an interesting show with a great headliner band.

Runners up this week are: The other Tiger Translate show this week is Perdel at Mao Livehouse, Sun @ 8:30PM, same price; and if you’re up for some punk rock, check out the King Kong night at Mao Live, Sat @ 8:30PM, 70/50RMB for five awesome bands; finally, check out Brain Failure’s unplugged set at Jianghu, Sat @ 9PM50RMB.

Festival News: Rock Aid Beijing 2011

And yet another music festival is gracing our fair city. If the inmusic festival is too far out of the city for you to contemplate, try the Rock Aid festival in a couple of weekends. It’s being held over three nights from 8PM at Tango 3rd Floor (previously Star Live), just outside the second ring road north, near Yonghegong Lama Temple station. It’s easy to get to, always clean, and while the space looks like a factory, it’s got pretty good acoustics. The price is a bit much (100RMB/night, and nothing yet on pricing for all three nights), but the lineup is stellar. Twisted Machine, Yaksa, and Chunqiu headline each of the nights, with other great hard rock acts lined up. Check out all the performing artists and more at the gig guide!

    Google Music Artist Playlists

This afternoon I was taken with a bout of nostalgia and had to click around Google Music searching for Simon & Garfunkel songs, which I guess is beside the point, but what I noticed on the right-hand side of the main page (almost too far down for me to notice at first) was something called “大牌私房歌” or “Big Name Song Rooms”. I saw a picture of indie pop darling Peng Tan, so I decided to click and see what it was all about, and it turned out to be just like iTunes Artist Playlists. I didn’t recognize most of the names, but there were a couple that caught my eye, since they’ve been at music festivals and the like. As mentioned, there’s Peng Tan, who is friends with Convenience Store and those Modern Sky guys; Deserts Zhang, who is a Taiwanese songstress who was at Modern Sky festival last October; and finally, Khalil Fong, who is an American-born, Hong Kong-based artist who writes R&B/soul Mandopop songs who you should definitely check out because while it’s Mandopop it’s actually good. Unsurprisingly, Khalil has the most interesting and varied (and long) list, but Deserts Zhang has The Carpenters alongside New Pants, and Peng Tan’s music is exclusively Western music, with Pet Shop Boys and Sean Lennon on the same list. If artist playlists are your thing, definitely check these out and whatever else catches your eye.

Gig of the Week: 20 July — 26 July 2011

    Where: Raying Temple
    When: Sat 23 July, 21:00PM
    How Much: 30RMB
Who: Soviet Pop, Hot & Cold, Felicita, Deadly Cradle Death (More Info)
Why: Every now and then, it’s time for something new. And while this is yet another pangbianr night that I’m recommending, and one of the bands is the same as last week, Raying Temple is quite new. Well, it’s been around for a while, but I’ve never been, and chances are you haven’t been, either. It’s out south-east, way out in Tongzhou, and it has been a breeding ground, a nurturing space, for experimental artists in Beijing for a long time. Though the venue now is not the original, it still has the same ethos, and what better place for a pangbianr night, and the artists on the lineup? Soviet Pop is the experimental side-project of the ex-members of Carsick Cars; Hot & Cold is an expat duo who make the good kind of droning music; Felicita is a British experimental artist who fuses digital and analog sounds; and finally, new project Deadly Cradle Death is the side-project of He Fan of Birdstriking and Liu Xinyu of Chuiwan. I am most interested in hearing Deadly Cradle Death, because they’re new, and Soviet Pop because they’ve been around a while. Make a day of it and head out early! It should be fun.

The runners up this week are many: TooKoo, AIS and more hit up Dos Kolegas on Friday night, 10PM, 40RMB; reggae stars Long Shen Dao make a rare appearance at Dos Kolegas in the afternoon from 5PM on Saturday, 60/50RMB; of course you can check out the acts at Tiger Translate — this weekend headliners are electro-rock darlings Queen Sea Big Shark (Mao, Fri @ 8PM) and Reflector (Yugong Yishan, Sat @ 9PM) prices 70RMB and below; or else, there’s some Japanese acts breezing through town this weekend: Shuhari, ONC, and US/Taiwanese act Half Mile Radius. I didn’t get a chance to check these guys out but you might like them; they’re playing Friday @ Yugong Yishan (9PM, 30RMB), Saturday @ D-22 (10PM, 50/40RMB), and Sunday @ Mao Livehouse (8:30PM, 60/50RMB).
