Furosemide Online Australia, Lasix Mayo Clinic ^^ Purchase With No Prescription Furosemide

I know, I know… I’ll stop harping on about this soon. But if you didn’t catch me on the radio talking about my website, here it is embedded. Think of it as for posterity, not vanity. Oh, and if you ever see me at a gig, feel more than free to come over and say hi! I don’t bite, and I promise not to make you buy me a drink.

    Follow-up Carsick Cars News

I thought that the Carsick Cars search for new band members was going to be a long and protracted prospect, as much as the Hedgehog one was. I should have realized how foolish it would be to have Zhang Shouwang floating around without his bass line, with such a big b®and name like Carsick Cars hanging in the balance.

So it surprised me when I saw the lineup for the D-22 New Years gig: Gar, Mr Graceless, Rustic and… Carsick Cars. I wondered what was up, and then not an hour later, I got an email in my inbox from the on-the-ball pangbianr.com letting me know who the new members are.

Joining Zhang Shouwang are He Fan of Birdstriking fame, and Ben Ben from Taiwan’s Boyz & Girl, who performed in July at D-22.

Thanks again to Josh at Pangbianr for the update; this should make for an interesting lineup!

    Gig of the Week: 24 November 2010 — 30 November 2010

    Where: Mao Livehouse
    When: Sat 27 Nov, 21:00PM
    How Much: 80RMB; 60RMB pre-sale
    Who: Reflector (More Info)
Why: I have only seen Reflector once, at this year’s Strawberry Festival, but at that time I was incredibly impressed. Not only by their music, which I guess you could describe as punk rock, but they are definitely heavier on the ‘rock’ side of the spectrum than on the ‘punk’. They were energetic and engaging and I hope to see the same performance on a smaller stage at Mao Livehouse. I didn’t see another name on the lineup, but I can’t really fathom a gig starting at 9PM and not having an opening act.

This week’s runners up are: Dalian band Doc Talk Shock are hitting D-22, Sat @ 10PM, 40/30RMB; Burning the Chinese Flame punk rock gig at Mao Livehouse, Fri @ 8:30PM, 60/50RMB; and finally, another Made in Ningxia night at Dos Kolegas, Fri @ 10PM, 40/30RMB.

Beijing Gig Guide… on the radio!

I’ve been invited to be on the AM774 radio show “My Life in Beijing — Hobbies & Social Life” this week, tomorrow to be exact. The program is on from 8-9PM, and you can listen at AM 774 (obviously), or online at their website (posted after the event). It is recorded live and will probably be full of hilarious mis-speaking and random ramblings, but at least it will be mostly about the Beijing scene as I know and love it. You’ll all probably have completely different opinions, so feel free to let me know what you think!

    Gig Review: X is Y @ D-22, 2010.11.13

I described this gig to my friend before going as an “ambient rock” night, and I think on most counts I was correct. I will admit, we didn’t get there in time to see The Flying Mantas (if they did indeed play, they certainly got it over with quickly, as I didn’t get there that much later than the starting time), so I’m not sure of the overall effect, but I came away from the gig feeling as though I’d listened to some great, if a little soporific at times, loud versions of quiet rock.

The first band we saw was Me Too, who have been hitting the stage most often with bands like Lazy Camels and Candy Monster — both solid rock acts. Me Too are no different — a solid act, if a little distant in their performance of their brand of rock — but often they sounded more like the house music had been turned up really loud, rather than being a live band. I did like a couple of tracks of theirs — Exist (存在) and Present (礼物) were especially enjoyable — but on the whole it was a very low-energy performance, and not exactly what I had expected.

Gig Guide Update: New D-22 Directions

This probably doesn’t warrant an actual post on my blog, but for any newbies out there I thought I would let you all know that I learned (belatedly, I’m sure) of a far easier route to D-22 over the weekend. For anyone who has had to change from Line 2 to Line 13 in the insane cattle race that is the Xizhimen interchange, never fear! Line 4 has saved the day! Because of this, line 4 become my new favorite line of the Beijing subway (even though I don’t live near it).

The Gig Guide D-22 page has been updated, but for posterity and anyone just surfing around, here are the new directions posted below, for your convenience:

Get out at East Gate of Peking University (北京大学东门) exit C (south-east exit) and head east on Chengfu Lu. D-22 is now a 5–10 minute walk, depending on your speed.

    Gig Review: Luke Chow @ D-22, 2010.11.12

Before I get into discussing the music of the evening, I would like to start with a general question that came to me over the weekend: since when did so many foreigners go to D-22? The last time I was there was for an Australian band who had been promoted through the Embassy and around lots of Aussie circles, so it didn’t surprise me then. And even during this gig, it was clear that a large majority of the foreigners in the crowd were a party-going contingent Peking University; and I guess, on Saturday, the headliners were two foreigners from Shanghai and a Chinese girl. Still, it felt very strange to see so many foreign faces in the crowd. I’m glad to see it, don’t get me wrong — introducing Chinese bands to foreigners is a favorite pastime of mine — but it still threw me off.

Anyhow, that’s not what tonight was all about.

Owing to an early dinner and a leisurely stroll from Renmin all the way to D-22, I arrived in enough time to catch a sizeable amount of the first act’s set. Old Fashion were a pretty solid act, interrupted only by the aforementioned PekingU crowd who were clearly friends with the adorable lead singer. It made for some amusing bilingual acrobatics between songs, but really the songs were much stronger than the antics surrounding them. They reminded me of a rockier, less polished version of Queen Sea Big Shark, but then– most any band with a spunky female vocalist with crazy hair and interesting fashion sense seems to have the same effect.

    Doumail: Carsick Cars News

This doumail hit my inbox early this morning and I thought I’d translate it for everyone (original below the cut):

    Subject: Carsick Cars
    Time: 2010-11-17 03:00

We have made an important decision: due to creative differences and opportunities for members’ personal development, bassist Li Weisi and drummer Li Qing have chosen to leave the band; Zhang Shouwang and his new bandmates will continue the work of Carsick Cars. The November 16 performance may in fact be the last time Carsick Cars perform together in their original form.

Since the first rehearsals and performances in 2005, for more than five years, we three have created two studio albums, experienced more than 100 live performances, and toured the nation and overseas. These have been some of the most important experience and beautiful memories of our lives.

In the future, Li Qing and Li Weisi might make some more music with Snapline and Soviet Pop; and outside of Carsick Cars, Shouwang will also be doing more experimental music with White+. In addition, it is quite possible that we three will collaborate in a free [liberal] music project in the future.

    Gig of the Week: 17 November 2010 — 23 November 2010

    Where: Bye Bye Disco Bar
    When: Sat 20 Nov, 21:00PM
    How Much: 25RMB
Who: The Life Journey (More Info)
Why: Those of you who have been with this newsletter for any period of time this year should know that I will always pick a Life Journey gig for pick of the week. Yes, it’s biased, but I cannot recommend them enough. I wrote up their self-titled album on my blog last year and I think it gives you a pretty good overview of what their music is like. They’re a fun band who always look like they’re having fun on stage, and their music is indie pop at its best. But the real reason for recommending this gig in particular is that it’s highly likely that it’s the last acoustic gig that will be played at Bye Bye Disco Bar. If, like me, you have never been, it’s a courtyard bar just off Nanluoguxiang, affiliated with the trendy Bye Bye Disco boutique which is actually on NLGX. I recommend heading out early, not only because space will likely be limited, but also because who knows where Shajing Hutong is actually located… (I lie, there’s a map at my website, but good luck navigating!)

Runners up for this week are: King Kong’s 5th Anniversary, for all the hard rock & metal heads out there, Mao Livehouse, Sat @ 8:30PM, 60/50RMB; Zoomin’ Night CD Launch nights — Friday & Saturday at D-22, 10PM, 40/30RMB; and check out the fresh faces at Campus Rock Night at Mao Livehouse, Fri @ 8PM50RMB.

NYT Coverage of Chinese Music Festivals

A couple of weeks ago, Jake Newby posted a link to a New York Times video covering a bunch of Chinese music festivals — everything from Midi to Zebra to Modern Sky. He wrote it off as cliche, and while I think in ways it was, I think it’s also a pretty good overall introduction to the indie music scene and the way it’s coming to be accepted — in very small ways — by the general population and the government. I mostly say so because I recently found the accompanying article, which gets into a bit more detail on the matter. It still rests largely on a lot of broad generalizations, but I think most of it is pretty fair. It doesn’t go into the history of rock music in China, but it presents the scene at large as it stands at the moment. Of course, there’s still a long way to go for a lot of China — reading over at Andy’s blog about what the expo has done to the Shanghai scene makes me glad to live in Beijing — but it does point to the changing views. Yes, acceptance is currently tentative, based on how much money can be made from it, but it’s a step. Things change slowly, not overnight.

Anyway, I’m not much of an analyst, but I’d recommend reading it to get a general view of the changing view and stance of the government on rock music in China.
