Gig of the Week: 06 Jan 2010 — 12 Jan 2010
Where: Yugong Yishan
When: Fri 08 Jan, 9.00PM
How Much: 60RMB
Who: Queen Sea Big Shark, (Hedgehog), Casino Demon, B-Side Lovers (More Info)
Why: In a rehash of the milestone Sing For China tour around the USA last September, Beijing indie legends Queen Sea Big Shark, Hedgehog and Casino Demon take the stage for what promises to be a night of amazing music. I’ve seen Queen Sea Big Shark, and it does not surprise me that they landed the gig as opening act for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Hedgehog and Casino Demon are also great acts, and you can read a writeup of the last time I saw them here. I have, however, put Hedgehog in parenthesis for this gig, because B-Side Lovers is actually an interim group before Hedgehog regains their bassist. I’m not sure when they actually lost their bassist, but until then I’m not sure how much will really be different with the B-Side Lovers. I’d check them out before Hedgehog resumes activities.
But if you’re not feeling loud and boisterous this week, the runners up are: singer-songwriter heartthrob Peng Tan TONIGHT at Mao Live (100RMB, 8.30PM); foreign indie folk artists Great Lake Swimmers, Thursday at Yugong Yishan (150RMB, 8PM); and Ningxia folk act Buyi any night of the week (Fri @ Jiangjinjiu; Sat @ Jianghu; Sun @ D-22).
